While listening to the radio, I heard that today, Super Bowl Sunday, is only SECOND to Thanksgiving in total food consumption in one day. They went on to talk about the most consumed foods during the Super Bowl, which are of no surprise – 1. Dips, 2. Wings, 3. Pizza and Chips.
Now obviously this is the norm your average US home, but we at Leaner Living do things a little bit differently (as if you didn’t already know that 🙂 )
SUPERBOWL SUNDAY LEANER LIVING STYLE
Starters
The obvious tried and true Veggie Plate- Instead of regular ranch dip try blending some Hidden Valley Ranch powder with some 2% cottage cheese to pump up your protein intake.
Pizza
There are a few Leaner Living options:
- Perfect Pesto Pizza – This one is good for larger groups since it is quick and easy to make a few at a time.
- Meat Lovers Cauli-Almond Pizza – This is fun for a smaller group and makes for an interesting conversation starter.
Or you can try just making some low-carb cheesy bread, which is the easiest of them all
Easy Cheesy Bread (Compliments of Dr. Karl Nadolsky):
-Joseph’s lavash bread (available at Walmart) 100cal. 4g fat. 14g carb. 6g fiber. 10g protein
-1 Cup shredded part-skim mozzarella 240cal 18g fat 0g carb 21g prot
-1/2 Cup shredded cheddar 160cal. 13g fat. 0g carb. 11g prot
-garlic powder or minced garlic to taste
total: 500cal 35g fat 14g carb 6g fiber 41g prot
-8 pieces: 67cal 4g fat 1.7g carb .75g fiber 10g prot per piece
(may save more calories by using low-fat cheddar)
Spray olive oil on pan, place lavash, dress evenly with garlic and cheese.
Bake at 350 for 10min
Wings
We are working on a few recipes but for times sake try baking a pan of wings with some melted garlic butter rubbed on top and then dipping them in the cottage cheese ranch sauce described above.
Okay these are just a few tweaks we did with our Superbowl Sunday. What are you going to do?
